Kata Beach Nightlife Informal and laid-back, Kata is the kind of place to relax with a cocktail or beer in an open-air bar or restaurant, the typical, picturesque, tropical bar area most would appreciate. Here you can do some shopping, watch the big game on a pubs television, or enjoy a laid-back, balmy evening.
Less hectic than Patong, and more compact than Karon, Kata is an ideal compromise between the two. Most evening venues are geared towards families and couples with outdoor cafes and good value local restaurants. Kata's small roads have experienced rapid development and helped retain the village-like atmosphere. Since most of the beach lies within the grounds of Club Med, nightlife is concentrated at the ends of the beach rather than the center like other areas. A must for everyone staying in Kata is watching the sunset from the Reggae Bar overlooking Kata Noi, the view is amazing and well worth the 5 min tuk-tuk journey.
Over the last year, Kata's small beer bar areas at both ends of the beach have expanded, so you don't have to go far for more options. But, for the real party scene head for Patong, just an easy 10-minute drive north.
Patong Beach Nightlife If you are a baseball fan you have Cooperstown, an art lover you have the Louvre and if you are a party animal you now have Patong. This is the epicentre of Phuket's nightlife, ground zero for the legendary party scene and the place where all your party dreams can come true. That's not to say that there's nothing to do in Patong besides drink. You don't have to be drunk to enjoy the scene, although it does help. There's plenty of shopping, lots of great live music and more than enough of entertainment such as cabarets and Thai boxing. Patong can be as wild or tame as you want it to be, but one thing's for sure, you will never have a dull moment.
Karon Beach Nightlife If you want to find a balance between rowdy and relaxed, Karon is the best bet. It attracts enough foreigners to support the beer bars, but, it's not the party destination that Patong is. The variety of atmosphere is a big plus since in Karon, you can be in a relaxed pub and not even notice the more raunchy beer bars only ten meters away. Going from calm and relaxed to scandalous and back again without moving more than half a block is the nightlife in Karon Beach.
Bang Tao Beach Nightlife Most of the highend and luxury hotels are located around Bang Tao creating a more distinct and low key nightlife experience. The Laguna is a complex of five luxury hotels linked by a shuttle service. It is completely self contained with restaurants, bars, entertainment and leisure activities both day and night. It's all there. If you desire a more local perspective, there are a number of bars and small restaurants that, despite warnings from the hotels, provide great food at very reasonable prices.
There may be no better way to spend an evening than at a beach-side bar or restaurant with the sound of the sea and the sand between your toes? From early evening you'll find people heading towards Totos and The Supper Club to hear the latest local gossip. The Supper Club with its vast menu also has a good wine list and good music to go with it. Another option would be Tatonka with its interesting worldly cuisine. Most bars stay open until late.
Kamala Beach Nightlife Although Kamala has recently expanded and developed quickly, you can still enjoy the seaside village atmosphere that first attracted visitors years ago. The beachside bars are a good spot for a sunset and to watch local fisherman coming in for the night.
Surin Beach Nightlife Surin nightlife changes with the seasons. From November to May the party atmosphere is in full swing along the beach and further inland. For the rest of the year, however, the area's night time activities are pretty much reserved to the row of restaurants and bars that lead to the Chedi from Surin's main intersection. This road is known locally as Soi Haad Surin 8. Don't expect Patong nightlife in Surin. It's a more tasteful, laid back experience and often appreciated for it.
Phuket Town Nightlife The nightlife scene in Phuket Town is certainly different from the craziness of Patong. Phuket town has a distinctly Asian flavor that's an acquired taste, but a delight once you get used to it.
Phuket Town is a great window into the life of real, everyday, modern Thais. The scene in Phuket Town’s nightclubs and bars is very indicative of Thai culture: it's fun, slightly corny and no one is taking anything seriously.
